This notice explains what personal information PowerQuote collects when you ask for solar quotes, why we collect it, who we share it with and what your rights are under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Who we are
PowerQuote is the responsible party for the information you give us on powerquote.co.za. We are based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. You can reach us, including our information officer, at hello@powerquote.co.za.
What we collect
- Your answers to the quote questions: your electricity spend, whether you own the home, the property and roof type, what you want solar to do, your timeline, how you plan to pay, and, if you plan to use finance, whether you have debt review, a judgment or a default on your record.
- Your suburb.
- Your first name, surname if you give it, mobile number, email address if you give it, and whether installers may contact you on WhatsApp.
- A record of your consent: the wording you agreed to, the time, your IP address and your browser type.
- How you found us, such as the advert you clicked.
We don't ask for your ID number, and we don't run credit checks.
Why we collect it
- To introduce you to up to 3 solar installers who serve your area, so they can contact you about a quote. This is the purpose you consent to on the form.
- To keep the service free of spam and fake requests.
- To see which of our adverts bring people to the site, so we spend less on the ones that don't.
Who we share it with
- Up to 3 solar installers who serve your area. They receive your answers and contact details and may contact you about this quote only. If you ask, we'll tell you which installers received your details.
- Vercel, which hosts this website. Your request is stored in Vercel's Cape Town data centre.
- Meta, through the Meta pixel, which tells us that someone arrived from an advert and that a quote request was sent. We never send Meta your name, number, email or answers.
We don't sell your information to anyone else, and we don't add you to mailing lists.
Cookies
The Meta pixel sets a cookie to measure our adverts. Your browser also keeps your quiz answers for the length of your visit, so a reload doesn't lose your progress. They're removed when you send the request or close the browser.
How long we keep it
We keep your request for 12 months so we can answer questions about introductions we made, then delete it. You can ask us to delete it sooner.
How we protect it
Requests are stored privately and only PowerQuote can read them. We ask installers to use your details only for your quote.
Your rights
You may ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, withdraw your consent, and object to being contacted. Email hello@powerquote.co.za with your reference number if you have it. If you're unhappy with how we handle your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator.
